An emotional support animal is a kind of help animal that helps mitigate the signs of intellectual or emotional disabilities such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. Such help animals are usually prescribed by means of a licensed mental health expert as a section of an individual’s cure plan. The prescription takes the form of an official document called an emotional support animal letter, also known as an ESA Letter.
