1. Maintain a comfortable posture

 

You should practice dilator therapy in an environment free of disturbances and stress-inducing factors. Put yourself in a relaxed state, take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Try muscle breathing [breathing through the abdomen], which helps to relax naturally and open the vaginal wall.

 

Lie on your back with your knees bent, your feet flat on the ground, and your legs should be shoulder-width apart. This posture should be comfortable and allow you to touch the opening of the vagina.

 

To make insertion of the dilator easier, you can perform some Kegel exercises to relax your pelvic floor muscles.

 

  1. Gently insert the Vaginal Speculum

 

Vaginal treatment should not cause pain; its purpose is to save you from pain. If you feel any discomfort, stop and take a deep breath.

 

Apply a water-based lubricant to your vaginal opening and the smallest size dilator (or a size you know will stretch the vagina without causing pain. If it hurts, please downgrade to a smaller diameter). Do not use Vaseline® because it can irritate the vaginal mucosa.

 

Gently and slowly insert the rounded end of the dilator, then slowly; it should fit but not tight. If pressure causes pain, stop. If the dilator is easy to penetrate, use a larger size. Buying a dilator set is a good choice, so before starting dilation therapy, there are various sizes on hand.

 

Relax your pelvic floor muscles, then insert the dilator further. After reaching the maximum, gently move the dilator in, out and around to stretch the vagina. Stay focused and breathe, move slowly and take time out slowly. Practice for a few minutes, and gradually increase to 10 minutes as time passes.

 

  1. Remove the expander

 

Remove the dilator and let yourself breathe and relax for a few more minutes.

 

Wash the expander with neutral soap and hot water. These microorganisms can cause odors, stains and material degradation, making them easier to keep clean and longer fresh.
